My lessons are for all levels...

One-to-one or small group lessons are available for all levels.  Even if you're an absolute beginner, I can get you started using the language immediately.

My lessons focus on basics and directly relate to your actual learning needs in Istanbul. I've created my own lesson plans that are not only simple but also stimulating and creative. However, on the basis of eliciting comments, ideas and suggestions from the learners I adapt and modify the lessons to more effectively meet the specific needs of students. There will be homework to be studied and practiced every day to reinforce the learning in the lessons and to keep the students active.

You can check out the cashier-customer  dialogue (with audio) that Hatice & I prepared & role-played in a class on the day I practiced it with a cashier in a supermarket.

Another example is a lesson that includes Cihangir Yoga map and "asking for directions" (with audio) that I directly collected from the people in the street on my way to Fındıklı where I conducted that day's lesson in Cihangir Yoga.

My teaching is not limited to the classroom. My students can contact me by email or phone when they have questions. I can record the content of the worksheets used in the classes so that you can practice them at home with correct pronunciation.

I'm an occasional contributor to TurkishClass.com's forum. You can check out my postings on the forum to see what kind of written assistance you can get from me.

      Try before you buy! :)

If you want to see if or how we can work together, feel free to contact me to make an appointment.

Our first meeting will be free of charge - no catches, no pressure, no strings attached! In this free introductory session:

  • We'll talk over a cup of tea.
  • We'll discuss your needs and expectations as well as what you want to learn and how you want to learn.
  • I'll get to see your level of Turkish.
  • You'll get to see some samplings of what and how I teach as we discuss.
  • We'll decide whether and in what conditions we'll work (including our schedule, pricing and payment).
We can do this free introductory session through video conferencing via Skype, Windows Live Messenger, Google Talk etc.

Depending on where you live in Istanbul, we can do the lessons in your workplace or home, you can come to my home (I live in Rumelihisarüstü near Etiler), or we can arrange some other place like a café.

    Pricing

My rate is between 50 TL and 100 TL per hour, depending on your requirements.

In order for me to be able to give you a quote, I need to know how much time I'm likely to spend in total. In addition to the time we spend in the class together, I also consider preparation of a lesson, additional after-lesson work, email/telephone support and travel time & cost.

Here is an example for 'additional after-lesson work': a student made a list of things at home and emailed them to me.
     Then I

    1.    corrected the mistakes in the list. (10mins)
    2.    converted the list into .xls format and made a mini English-Turkish dictionary. (30mins)
    3.    made an audio version of the Turkish words in the list. (10mins)
    4.    transferred the audio files from my mobile phone and re-named them. (5mins)
    5.    uploaded the files into my website, and sent the link to the student. (5mins)

So I gave 60mins to this student in addition to the actual lesson.

In addition to that, the package may include telephone, email or instant messenger counseling. It means that you can ask questions outside of the classes, and I answer your questions. (If you choose to ask the questions by phone, I pay for the cost of your call by putting the phone on busy and calling you back.)

Group lessons require more time than one-to-one lessons due to my individual services for each student outside of the classes. So for example, if I’m charging 75 TL per hour for a one-to-one lesson, I may ask for 40 TL from each student if two people want to join the same lesson.

Since the factors such as above have an influence on how much time is necessary for the lessons in total, I need to learn your expectations from me so that I can give you a quote.

If you don't require me to travel or spend any extra time outside of the classes, my price is 50TL per hour. In that case, how long a session will last is up to you.  So you can pay 25TL for a 30-minute session or 75TL for a 90-minute session. Non-teaching conversations and breaks aren't included in the session. As long as you or I aren't in a hurry, I'm usually happy to extend the sessions a little more without extra cost to you.

If you want my assistant co-teacher to participate in our lessons, the charge will be doubled. (If you prefer to have lessons with two teachers, please let me know before our introductory free session so that she comes to the meeting. You can talk to Hatice on the phone before you meet her.)

Working with two teachers is ideal especially for role-playing activities. Furthermore, if you decide to work with both Hatice and me, she will also take part in the process of preparation of your customized lessons. This can dramatically increase the quality of the lessons because collaborative lessons created by Hatice and me together come into existence with our brainstorming and evaluating the contents, homework, presentation and technique of the lessons.
